A vehicle driven by Jose Lopez of Fall River struck and killed a deer around 5:30 p.m. on West Main Road near Raytheon. Police said Mr. Lopez was driving south when he hit the deer, that had ran out from the northbound side of the road. The vehicle received damage to its front driver’s side.
Tuesday, Feb. 26
Timothy M. Cowell, 45, of 153 Viking Drive, was charged with driving with a suspended license after the vehicle he was driving struck another car driven by Margaret M. Chapman on East Main Road at Sherwood Drive around 12:50 p.m. Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
Hollie C. Mello, 38, of 68 Pine St., Portsmouth, and Jeremiah J. Benoit, 34, of 57 Farnum St., Fall River, with both charged with simple assault, vandalism with malicious injury to property and disorderly conduct after an alleged road rage incident that prompted several 911 calls the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 24. Police said it all started with a conflict on Facebook between two male juveniles who agreed to meet at the Island Park playground for a fight. When one of the boys arrived in a car that also carried his friend and his older brother behind the wheel, the vehicle containing the other boy and the two adult suspects pulled up beside it. According to police, the two adults and the boy got out and started yelling and kicking the other car, with one of them pulling the door handle off the rear passenger door. The juvenile driver drove away on Park Avenue toward East Main Road, with Ms. Mello driving the other car in pursuit, police said. Mr. Benoit was hanging out of the car and taking swings at the other vehicle with a baseball bat but did not make contact, according to police. The boy driving the lead car dropped off his passengers at Bank Newport and then stopped at a red light in front of Clements’ Marketplace. At that point, police said, the other car stopped behind him and both adults exited and approached the vehicle. Mr. Benoit punched the driver’s side window, which smashed and covered the driver in glass, police said. He then started punching the driver’s head, and Ms. Mello entered through the front passenger’s door and did the same, police said. The suspects then left and police arrested them three days later after a warrant had been issued.
Jeremy A. Hart, 27, of 13 Lincoln St., #1, Newport, was charged with making harassing and threatening phone calls to his ex-girlfriend, a Portsmouth resident, at about 5:50 a.m.
Three men and a juvenile were each charged with two counts of vandalism with malicious injury to property at about 10 p.m. Police responded to Common Fence Point for a report of a vehicle driving around with its occupants damaging mailboxes. Arrested were the driver, John L. Anderson, 20, of 336 West Main Road; Neil H. Cain, 19, of 24 Islington Ave.; Ryan P. Hamilton, 20, of 20 Oakdale Ave.; and a juvenile.
Saturday, March 2
A driver of a car that struck and killed a dog on Route 24 near Turnpike Avenue around 9:20 p.m. was issued a summons for failure to report the accident. A witness recorded the vehicle’s license plate and reported it to police, who then attempted to contact the driver. The driver later told police she didn’t feel safe pulling over with two children inside the car.

A man who was found to have discharged a pump-action, 12-gauge gun near Old Mill Lane was told to move further away from his neighbors after a complaint came in around 10:30 a.m.
