Barrington police search for bank robbery suspect

Barrington police are looking for information on the whereabouts of an East Providence man who allegedly robbed a Citizens Bank in town.

According to local police, Aaron M. Lapointe, of 803 Willett Ave., entered the Citizens Bank branch at 965 County Road (near the Barrington-East Providence town line) a little after 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, and handed one of the tellers a note.

“The note mentioned a gun, but no weapon was shown,” stated a press release from the police.

Mr. Lapointe, who was reportedly known to the tellers inside the bank, left the branch with an undetermined amount of cash. Bank officials quickly called the police who responded to the scene at 3:45 p.m. and spoke with witnesses.

Police said Mr. Lapointe has been known to stay with his girlfriend, who lives at 32 Henry St., in Cranston. He is also known to routinely travel around the state using the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.

“He frequents Kennedy Plaza and the City of Newport via bus,” stated the release.
