Woman is arrested in stabbing incident in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE — An adult female is currently in the custody of East Providence Police following the aftermath of a stabbing incident in the Rumford section of the city Tuesday night, April 7.

Darlene Degeo, 52, was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in a dwelling or home. The suspect was apprehended and taken to East Providence Police headquarters where she awaited arraignment Wednesday afternoon, April 8, in Sixth District Court.

The incident took place on the premisses of the Tall Oaks apartment complex located at 65 New Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect is alleged to have stabbed a 58-year-old female multiple times. The victim suffered wounds to the neck and chest area. She was treated at the scene and in hospital for non-life threatening injuries. She was later released.

According to the report of EPPD Detective Captain Richard Frazier, the incident occurred over money. The women live in the same complex but in different apartments.

Ms. Degeo  is alleged to have attempted to steal an undetermined amount of cash from the victim at 65 New Road. When confronted, the suspect used a kitchen knife to assault the victim. Ms. Degeo fled the scene. Officers eventually tracked her down at the Americas Best Value Inn on Newport Avenue where she was arrested. Officers located the weapon at New Road scene.

Capt. Frazier said the suspect has an “extensive” criminal record.
