Aided in part by surveillance images released to the public more than a month ago, Warren police have charged a Portsmouth man with breaking into a Warren business in late May.

Matthew C. Nadeau, 38, of 10 Francis St., Portsmouth, was arrested by Rhode Island State Police on Friday, Aug. 14 and charged with breaking into a business with felonious intent. He was arraigned and released on $3,000 surety bail.

Deputy Warren Police Chief Joseph Loiselle alleged that Mr. Nadeau broke into the All Sports Collectibles shop on Market Street early on the morning of Thursday, May 28 and made off with an unconfirmed amount of cash. Stills taken from surveillance footage on Market Street were later released to the public by detectives looking for a break in the case, and police said several tips and inter-department cooperation that emerged as a result helped police ID Mr. Nadeau as a suspect. The images showed a man walking past the Second Story Theater on Market Street early that morning.

Mr. Nadeau has a lengthy record, having been charged numerous times for shoplifting and other offenses.
