According to multiples sources, a 50-year-old deputy chief in the Bristol Fire Department was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash along Metacom Avenue in Bristol this evening. The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m., when the vehicle went off the roadway and hit a fence near the intersection of Metacom and Sowams Drive, near Arnold Lumber. Sowams is located between Chestnut Street and Gooding Avenue.
Several sources, including State Rep. Raymond Gallison of Bristol, have confirmed the victim as Frank Sousa, a veteran member of the volunteer fire department. According to his Facebook page, Mr. Sousa was a 1982 graduate of Bristol High School.
Accroding to Bristol Police, he was the only occupant in the vehicle, and there were no other vehicles involved. The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Police could not release any more details at this time.
