PORTSMOUTH — Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week.
Tuesday, Nov. 10
A car driven by Heather O’Neil of Somerset struck a deer that had run into the driver’s side of her vehicle while traveling northbound on West Main Road before the Route 24 northbound on-ramp. Ms. O’Neil walked into police headquarters to report the incident shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 12
A small, injured deer that appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle was found in the middle of West Main Road shortly after 6 a.m. The animal was in a significant amount of distress, so a police officer euthanized the deer using her service firearm.
Friday, Nov. 13
Police investigated a report of the illegal dumping of trash at the Melville Campground around 1 p.m. Police found a pile of garbage that included a styrofoam pad, a metal box spring and several pieces of broken wood.
Richard S. Kanauss, 74, of 179 Narragansett Boulevard, was charged at 1:20 p.m. with domestic assault following an incident at his home, police said.
Allen W. Beaulieu, 37, of 57 Stub Toe Lane, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test at about 9:10 p.m. Police said Mr. Beaulieu was speeding on East Main Road and Middletown and caught up with him after he pulled into his driveway.
Saturday, Nov. 14
Stephen P. Najmy, 62, of 62 Bramans Lane, was charged with domestic assault at 1:50 a.m. following an incident at his home, police said.
Michael A. Plumley, 51, of 16 South St., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) at about 10:15 p.m. According to witnesses, Mr. Plumley was traveling west on Boyd’s Lane and attempting to turn left onto Bristol Ferry Road when he struck a sedan that was stopped at a red light in the southbound lane of the Mt. Hope Bridge. Police said they found the van off the roadway in the southbound lanes of Bristol Ferry Road with disabling damage to its front bumper. Mr. Plumley, whose mouth was cut, complained of pain and was transported by firefighters to Newport Hospital.
Sunday, Nov. 15
Steve Canito, 45, of 444 South Robeson St., Apt. 2, Fall River, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. His car was stopped on Route 24 northbound near Sprague Street around 2 a.m. because it had left the lane of travel, police said.
Manuel J. Stedford, 32, of 20 Chapel Terrace, Apt. 33, Newport, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. on a Superior Court bench warrant. Police responded to a Willow Lane home to assist firefighters with an intoxicated man who had vomited blood while watching the New England Patriots football game with a group of people, including Mr. Stedford. (The man was transported to Newport Hospital for treatment.) Police learned of the warrant on Mr. Stedford during a routine records check.
