Barrington police put an end to a strange gathering on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 26.
At about 11 a.m., police received a phone call from someone who spotted teenagers having a campfire in a wooded area at the end of Western Avenue. Officers responded and walked into the woods, eventually spotting someone who appeared to be chopping wood. A few others — all appeared to be teenagers — were nearby enjoying a campfire.
Once the teens spotted the police officers, they scattered deeper into the woods.
Police reached the makeshift campsite and found skateboards, a small propane tank, a bong and some hashish. The officers also stamped out the fire.
While they were in the woods, the officers noticed another youth walking toward the scene along a nature trail. The teen spotted the police and tried to walk away, but was stopped.
When he was questioned, the teenager reportedly told officers he was just out for a walk and knew nothing about the gathering. He was released.
