PORTSMOUTH — Here are the highlights from the Portsmouth police log over the past week.
Wednesday, July 10
Marena Boyadjan told police that her mooring chain and ball had been damaged by a barge being used by a company performing maintenance work on the Mt. Hope Bridge. She said it cost nearly $1,000 to replace the damaged items.
Thursday, July 11
David P. Vebber, 21, of 111 Linda Ave., was charged with vandalism/malicious injury to property and disorderly conduct at about 9:15 a.m. Police said a Linda Avenue resident complained that the man had kicked his mailbox, knocking it off its post.
Friday, July 12
Melanie A. Vieira, 24, of 17 Dresser St., Newport, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police pulled her car over for speeding on East Main Road near Linden Lane shortly after 1 a.m.
Saturday, July 13
Curtiss A. Mainville, 57, of 218 State St., Bristol, was charged with driving with a suspended license and obstructing an officer in the execution of his duties. A patrol officer observed Mr. Mainville’s car speeding on East Main Road just south of Clements’ Marketplace around 8:30 a.m., police said. Mr. Mainville drove into Clements’ parking lot and proceeded to the rear of the store, then exited his car and walked quickly away, police said. Mr. Mainville later returned to the car but denied to police that he was the driver, claiming that his girlfriend had dropped him off, police said.
Dennis J. Arruda III, 18, of 54 Mare Terrace, was charged with domestic assault at about 12:45 p.m. Police said the alleged assault took place at the home three days earlier.
Sunday, July 14
Samone L. McCarthy, 29, of 27 Standsbury St., Apt. 2, North Providence, was charged with larceny under $1,500 at about 3:30 p.m. The arrest stems from a June 10 complaint from a Middletown resident who said one of her checks, made out for $825, had been cashed at NewportFed in Portsmouth, police said. The complainant said her Rhode Island driver’s license had been used to make the transaction. Police used the bank’s video footage to identify Ms. McCarthy. Police put out a warrant for Ms. McCarthy’s arrest and responded to the Pawtucket Police Department to take her into custody.
