The following report is compiled from the Bristol Police Department call log for the week of July 29 – Aug. 4, 2013. Not all incidences are shown.
Monday, July 29
A caller reported a small white dog running loose on Naomi Street and Gooding Avenue.
Police responded to Bristol Town Beach for a report of a suspicious male in the area. Three female juveniles told police they saw three “goth style” skaters walking to the skate park. The girls were talking about the skaters when they saw another person, not-identified with the town summer camp, yelling to others that the skaters were almost abducted. Police and Parks and Recreation Director Walter Burke investigated the incident and interviewed all youth involved. The car in question belonged to a nearby fisherman.
Police responded to a home on Hope Street for a 9-1-1 hang-up call. The caller did not answer a return call from dispatch and so an officer went to the residence for a well-check. The caller apologized for the 9-1-1 call, stating it was an accidental dial.
A caller stated that a windsurfer was in distress along Thames Street. The windsurfer lost control of his board and sailed into the dock. No injuries were reported.
Police responded to a home on Bayview Avenue for a property dispute.
A Wendy Drive resident reported that a male approached the house looking for a “Jay” and then left the area in his car. Police investigated and determined that the male went to the wrong address.
Police went to a State Street apartment at 6:52 p.m. in an attempt to find Robert Muggle, 31, of Bristol, who was wanted on a 6th District Court bench warrant. Officers knocked on the door and Mr. Muggle answered. He tried closing the door on the police, trapping one of the officer’s left arms in the doorway. The officers pushed open the door to free the arm, and struggled to apprehend Mr. Muggle. He fought with police, spitting and hitting them. He was eventually sprayed with pepper spray and handcuffed. Mr. Muggle was also charged with resisting arrest.
A Bayview Avenue resident reported a house party at 10:29 p.m. Police investigated and discovered a few females behind the home in the garage. They were told to keep it down.
Tuesday, July 30
A Mount Hope Avenue resident reported a syringe on her property.
A Roma Street resident walked into the police station to report the theft of his lawn mower.
A Sefton Drive resident reported to police that he had not heard from his adult daughter in 24-hours. He believed she made an ATM withdrawal in Putnam, Conn. She is attending summer classes at Roger Williams University. Calls to her phone went unanswered. Police located the daughter on Sefton Drive and she was OK.
A 12-year-old developmentally challenged female ran from her camp counselors into the woods at Coggeshall Farm. Her summer camp was there on a field trip. Counselors told police she has run from them before and has become combative. The child has a history of harming herself and others and had already struck one person with a stick. RI Department of Environmental Management was also asked to respond. The girl was found and was transported to St. Anne’s.
Police and Bristol rescue responded to the Poppasquash Road entrance to Colt State Park for a motorcycle accident. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of a leg injury.
Police were dispatched to Bank of America on Hope Street for a report of a motorcycle accident. A male pointed police toward a motorcycle and its operator, stating that that man hit his car further up on Hope Street. Officers approached the motorcycle operator, identified as Ryan Jennings, 31, of Barrington, and immediately got a whiff of alcohol. Mr. Jennings, who was unsteady on his feet, submitted to a field sobriety test and a portable breathalyzer test, which read .109. Police also recovered a 3-and-a-half inch diving knife from Mr. Jennings’ backpack. He was arrested on charges of DUI first offense, and weapons law violation.
A Jane Lane resident reported suspicious juveniles in the area of a residence where the owner’s were away.
There was a report of a loose dog in the area of the Mount Hope Boat Ramp on Annawamscutt Avenue. Police secured the dog and brought it to the animal shelter.
Two females were reported arguing on State Street.
A caller reported she found a syringe on the street in front of a blue house near State and Wood streets.
There was a vessel in distress at Toussaint Point. Swansea rescue intercepted the boat and passengers were towed to Swansea, Mass.
A Mount Hope Liquors employee reported two males were arguing in front of the store. They were gone upon police arrival.
Wednesday, July 31
A King Phillip Avenue resident reported credit card fraud.
Police responded to a Bayview Avenue home for a tenant dispute.
A maintenance person found a syringe at St. Mary’s Church.
Police investigated the second floor of a Michael Drive residence, where the homeowner reported she believed something or someone was up there. The residence was checked and nothing was found.
Thursday, Aug. 1
A Gooding Avenue resident reported an injured seagull. RI Department of Environmental Management responded.
A DeWolf Avenue resident reported loud music coming from their neighbor. Police investigated and determined the music to be coming from a car stereo that was left on. The stereo was then turned off.
A caller reported that several people were in the water at Narrows Point. They appeared to be pulling a third person onto a boat. Harbor Patrol investigated and determined the people to be jumping in the water from the boat for fun.
A Bristol Woods Condominiums resident reported that there was a dead rabbit in her parking space. The resident was told that it was on private property and animal control could not remove it. She later called back to report that the rabbit was removed by a neighbor.
Police responded to the area of Sherman and Metacom avenues for a report that a female in a vehicle threw an object in the direction of another man’s vehicle. The caller did not wish to file a report.
Friday, Aug. 2
An anonymous caller reported that a group of teenagers were in the area of the town common on Wood Street and they may be damaging property. Police investigated and found that the group was just walking home and sought shelter when the rain began to fall. There was no damage to any property.
Police responded to Destiny’s Diner on Gooding Avenue for a report that a male was being disorderly, disputing over returned change. The male was advised to leave and he took the bus back to Providence.
A Magnolia Street resident reported that an old orange gas-powered scooter was taken from his sister-in-law’s driveway, where his son had parked it.
A Child Street resident made a 9-1-1 call requesting a rescue then, in the same breath, requested to cancel.
Police received a request to escort a woman to Reid Street to deliver medication to her children.
A Narrows Road reported a barking dog at 8:42 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 3
A Court Street resident reported that there were parties running through the apartments waking everyone up.
Police responded to an area of Broadcommon Road for a report of a car that crashed into a telephone pole.
A 15 or 16-year-old male with dark complexion, wearing dark clothing, was reported to have stolen a black and blue bike from the post office at 11:09 a.m.
Animal Control responded to a Colonial Road residence for a report of an injured animal. The cat was determined to be healthy.
A caller reported a reckless car on Hope Street near Echo Farm Drive. Police discovered a car pulled over and determined that the driver was having a diabetic reaction.
A caller requested police check on a dog that was in a car parked in a handicap space at Seabra Supermarket. The dog was OK and the owner had left the car running with the A/C on.
Two separate callers reported loud music coming from Agave Restaurant on Hope Street. The host of the function was contacted and asked to turn it down.
Sunday, Aug. 4
A caller reported seeing a car following a bicycle on Thames Street at 12:05 a.m. They weren’t sure if there was a reason for the bike to be followed.
Police responded to Wood Street at 4:43 p.m. for the removal of an unwanted person.
