A 14-year-old Barrington boy is facing a weapons possession charge after school officials found a folding knife inside his backpack last week.
The boy was allegedly chewing tobacco during a gym class period on Thursday, Sept. 19, when a faculty member noticed him; tobacco is not allowed on school grounds. Barrington High School officials then searched the boy’s backpack and allegedly found the tin of chewing tobacco, a small amount of marijuana and a 3.5-inch folding knife.
School administrators called the police who responded to the school and arrested the boy, who is a freshman at the high school. The teenager faces a charge of possession of weapons other than a firearm.
