PORTSMOUTH — Here’s the police log for the past week:
Monday, March 11
At about 9:30 a.m., an Oliveira Way woman told police she was a victim of a mail scam that attempted to extort money from her. She said she had recently received a money order by mail in the amount of $985 from “Secret Shopper/Robert Pyatte,” and was told to deposit it in her account before sending $150 to a person with a Georgia address. The woman reported the alleged scam to the Post Office, too.
Tuesday, March 12
Police found signs of vandalism at the Turnpike Avenue playground around 2 p.m. Police said the words “blood” and “Zoro” had been graffitied onto a slide. In addition, the infield of the baseball field had “KKK” and a racially offensive word inscribed in the dirt.
Wednesday, March 13
Police euthanized an opossum that they believed was rabid at about 8:35 a.m. on Park Avenue in front of Travers Plumbing. An officer shot the animal with a .410 shotgun and Animal Control Officer Ariel Fisher transported it to the Potter League in Middletown.
Donna L. Clark of Tiverton came into police headquarters around 10:30 a.m. to report that the driver’s side front rim and tire of her car were heavily damaged after she hit a pothole while traveling south on the Sakonnet River Bridge.
Stacey L. Brumfield, 39, of 98 Laban St., Providence, was charged shortly after midnight on two bench warrants, one issued from Sixth District Court and the other from Third District Court. The vehicle in which he was a passenger was stopped on West Main Road just south of Hedly Street because the driver was operating with a suspended license, police said.
Thursday, March 14
Joshua T. Gillchrest, 20, of 31 Bay St., was charged with possession of marijuana (first offense). Police were called to his residence around 10:40 p.m. after they received a complaint of alleged drug use. While they were on the scene, police found Matthew J. Brown, 19, of 96 Riverside St., sitting in a car parked out front. He was known to an officer from previous contact and was charged on a bench warrant issued from Second District Court, police said.
Friday, March 15
Peter T. Squires, 24, of 2 Bay View Ave., was charged with domestic assault shortly before 5 p.m.
Kyle J. Mitchell, 20, of 22 Richmond St., Apt. 2, Bristol, was charged with violating a no-contact order at about 4:50 p.m. After he was stopped for speeding on Boyd’s Lane, police discovered there was am active no-contact order between Mr. Mitchell and a passenger in the car.
Joseph A. Moffitt, 33, of 1 Johnson Terrace, Middletown, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over for speeding on Route 24 near Boyd’s Lane around 2:30 a.m.
Saturday, March 16
William L. Freeman, 46, of 24 Tilden Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with domestic assault (third offense) and violating a no-contact order at about 11:30 p.m. Police made the arrest at a Mello Terrace home after getting a report of a domestic disturbance.
Christopher J. Suneson, 24, of 48 Cedar St., Taunton, Mass., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over for speeding on East Main Road near Power Street just before midnight.
Charity Logan, 23, of 113 Cedar Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), obstructing a police officer and driving with an expired license at about 4 p.m. Police arrested Ms. Logan after the vehicle she was driving hit a fire hydrant at the intersection of Cove Street and Park Avenue.
Eric M. Emerson, 18, of 14 Flint Corn Road, was charged with obstructing a police officer, underage possession of alcohol and possession of a fake ID around 4:10 p.m. Police arrested him after the car he was driving hit a rock wall on Glen Road near Glen Farm Road.
