Portsmouth police: Man with no license in U.S. illegally

A vehicle driven by Wendy Lord of Middletown lost control on a slush-covered Cory’s Lane and spun 180 degrees before hitting a mailbox and stone wall around 9 a.m. About 10 feet of the stone wall, owned by the Carnegie Abbey Golf Club, was damaged.

Wednesday, March 20

Leslie Costi came into headquarters to report that her car hit a large pothole in the southbound, right travel lane of West Main Road, across from West Passage Drive, at about 6:55 a.m. There was no visible damage to the vehicle, but the R.I. Department of Transportation (DOT) was notified.

A vehicle driven by Christopher Schoorens of Portsmouth was found disabled in the southbound lane of West Main Road around 7:30 a.m., with a flat front tire and a dented rim. Mr. Schoorens said he had struck a large pothole earlier. DOT was advised of the needed road repair.

Noel E. Poirier, 28, of 6 Harrison St., Bristol, was charged with a bench warrant issued from Third District Court and driving with a suspended license after a patrolman observed him speeding on Boyd’s Lane around 3:50 p.m. Mr. Poirier was pulled on the other side of the Mt. Hope Bridge in Bristol.

Friday, March 22

Vehicles driven by Chloe Dasilva of Tiverton and Anderson Pereira of Fall River collided on West Main Road near King Charles Drive at about 1:40 a.m. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Kyle Barstow, 29, of North Attleboro, was charged with possession of marijuana at about 7 p.m.

Sunday, March 24

Mario Mendes, 39, of 590 Plymouth Ave., Fall River, was charged with driving without a license after his vehicle was pulled over for crossing the center line on West Main Road near Hedly Street around 2:30 a.m. Mr. Mendes provided police his passport and told them he was in the United States illegally from Ecuador, police said.

Durval Quintanilha, 45, of East Providence, was arrested at about 5 p.m. on a warrant issued by Cranston police. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license.

Monday, March 25

Andrew Bodell, 19, of Warwick, was charged with driving with a suspended license at about 12:15 a.m. Police also found two bench warrants for him, one from Third Division Court, another from Sixth Division.

A car driven by Caitlyn Stein of West Hartford, Conn. rear-ended a pickup truck stopped at a red light at the Portsmouth side of the Mt. Hope Bridge around 11 p.m. The truck then rear-ended another vehicle in front of it that had also been stopped at the light, Ms. Stein told police. All three vehicles pulled into the Mt. Hope Animal Hospital parking lot, but Ms. Stein said the two male operators did not wish to exchange insurance information and left the scene. Ms. Stein’s car sustained minor damage to the driver’s side front bumper. She told police the other two vehicles sustained little to no damage.
