On three separate occasions last week, Barrington residents went out of their way to help others.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, a local man was driving west along Lincoln Avenue near the high school when he noticed something in the roadway. He stopped his car, got out and picked up an Apple iPod in a brown leather case, a briefcase and a case of Poland Spring bottled water. The Barrington resident brought the items to the police station and turned it over to officers, who later checked through the papers in the briefcase and found the possible owner — a Highland Avenue man. Police called the rightful owner of the items and told him he could pick up his things.

On Friday, Jan. 24, a Barrington man was boarding a RIPTA bus in Middletown when he stumbled across a wallet. He picked it up and brought it to the Barrington police station. Officers again tracked down the rightful owner — a 22-year-old Middletown woman — and later returned it to her.

On Saturday, Jan. 25, a Prince’s Hill Road resident was outside the Shaw’s Supermarket when she spotted a Citizens Bank debit card on the ground. She scooped it up and turned it over to police. Once again, officers traced the item back to its owner, a Nayatt Road resident. The rightful owner said she thought she may have dropped it at a local gas station; police told her to call her bank and check her account.
