EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence Police Department announced the arrest of two suspects in possession of several thousands of dollars worth of fake gift cards.
Sherlyn Oplan, 29, of 1530 Albany Street New York, N.Y., was charged with 147 counts of Forgery & Counterfeiting and 138 counts of Conspiracy. Luc Beaubrun, 25, of 1902 Cortelyou Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with for 138 counts of Forgery & Counterfeiting and 138 counts of Conspiracy.

During the stop, officers learned the vehicle was a rental car and that neither occupant was listed on the authorized paperwork. Both occupants also had inconsistent stories about their relationship with each other. Further investigation revealed one of the suspects had an active warrant from another state.
Officers asked for and were granted consent to search the vehicle based on the inconsistent stories of the passengers and because the rental agreement did not authorize either occupant to operate the car.
Officers located more than 100 assorted Visa, Mastercard and American Express gift cards valued in the thousands of dollars during their search of the vehicle. The officers, recognizing the situation to be consistent with fraudulent activities, then brought both suspects to EPPD headquarters for further investigation.
Upon consultation with the United States Secret Service, it was confirmed that every one of the gift cards were fraudulent, Lt. Blinn said.
Both suspects were arraigned and held on $100,000 bail.
