A few Barrington residents contacted the police last week after they learned their tax refunds had been stolen.
On Monday, April 7, a Highland Avenue resident stopped into the station and told officers that he had tried to file his income tax return using Turbo Tax but learned that someone else had already done so.
It was a similar story on Thursday, April 10, for a Mallard Cove resident. He told police he had received a letter from the IRS stating that someone had already filed a return using his personal information.
A day later a Roffee Street resident called police with a similar incident. She said someone had filed a return using her and her husband’s information.
