Jose M. Matos, 23, of 91 Lenox Ave., Providence, was charged with the manufacture/possession/delivery of heroin and the manufacture/possession/delivery of cocaine following the 2 p.m. arrest.

Portsmouth police detectives received information from the Newport Police Department that a large delivery of drugs was scheduled to take place that day at 2 p.m., according to police. Police were told to be on the lookout for a lightly colored sports utility vehicle in the area of Park Avenue and Boyd’s Lane.

At about 2:50 p.m., police observed the vehicle parking near the seawall on Park Avenue at Boyd’s Lane. The driver, Mr. Matos, was arrested without incident, police said.

A search of the vehicle turned up 87 grams (about 3 ounces) of cocaine, along with seven grams of heroin and $612 in cash, according to police.

The drugs and cash were found in several compartments concealed in magnetic containers, police said. All the drugs were individual packaged for what appeared to be distribution, according to police.

Police found another $330 in cash in Mr. Matos’ pants’ pocket.
