Barrington Police Chief John LaCross is asking for the public’s assistance in keeping an eye out for prowlers.
Chief LaCross said people should call the police right away if they suspect someone lurking in their neighborhood. Tell-tale signs of a prowler could be a barking dog or car alarm sounding, said the chief.
“If you hear noises, alarms, dogs barking, even if they’re neighbor’s dogs, give us a call and we’ll swing by,” he said during an interview on Monday.
Barrington police have noticed a slight up-tick in break-ins or near break-ins recently. Just last week, a Meadow Circle resident’s car was stolen from his garage and a Prince’s Hill Road resident called police after noticing pry marks on the door leading to his garage.
A Meadow Circle resident called police at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, after he noticed his wife’s 2012 black Lexus was missing from the garage. He said they had last seen the car on Wednesday night, and was not sure if he had left the garage door open overnight. The local man told police that the keys to the unlocked Lexus had been left inside the center console.
At about 11 a.m. on June 12, a Prince’s Hill Road resident called police to report an attempted break-in. He said it appeared someone had tried to use a knife to pry open the door leading to his garage. He said the tip of the knife had been broken off in the door molding. The resident told police he noticed the broken knife a few days earlier but only called police after reading in the local newspaper about some recent break-ins around Barrington.
