Twice last week, Barrington police responded to incidents where bicycles had been used as weapons in assaults on cars.
On Tuesday, July 15, a 19 year-old woman from East Providence said she was driving in the area of Atria Bay Spring Village at about midnight when someone flung a bike into the car she was driving as she passed them. The woman said she passed a group of young men on Narragansett Avenue near Haines Park twice; on the second pass the men threw a bike into her car. Officers responded to the area of the incident but could not locate the suspect. The woman’s car was damaged during the incident.
And on Saturday, July 19, a Pine Cone Drive resident woke up to find a 10-speed bicycle thrown onto the hood of her car. The middle-aged woman said she had no idea where the bike came from. Police checked the surrounding neighborhood but could find no other signs of horse-play or vandalism.
