LITTLE COMPTON — A 17-year old youth was taken into custody by Little Compton police at a Little Compton residence Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and was later charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, with intent to commit murder.

The charges came after police responded to the residence following a report that a 50-year old man at the home, the youth’s father, had been assaulted with a knife.

Police said the man “was severely bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the neck” and had also sustained “several other superficial wounds” to his head.

The son was at the residence when they arrived, said police, and the arrest was made without incident.

Little Compton rescue personnel treated the victim and transported him to Charlton Hospital. He was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital for further treatment. His current condition remains unknown at this time.

Police later obtained authorization from a Family Court judge to transport the youth to the Juvenile Intake Center in Cranston and be held there until he is brought before the Family Court in Providence for arraignment Monday morning on the charges.

The incident remains under investigation by the Little Compton police. The youth’s name will not be made available because of his age, and the victim is not being identified at this time because of the ongoing investigation, said police. The address where the incident took place was also not released by police.
