Bristol Police: Man seeks free Thanksgiving dinner

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Nov. 17 and Nov. 23:

A washing machine reportedly caught fire in a home on Baker Street.

Richard A Coelho, 53, of 25 Naomi St., Bristol, was charged with firing a gun in a compact area around 1 p.m. A neighbor called to report someone was shooting a rifle in an area where wild turkeys were crossing the road.

Police investigated reports of a student threatening staff members at Mt. Hope High School.

Tuesday, Nov. 18

James Coppa, 51, of 24 Chapel Terrace, Newport, was arrested on a warrant for an original charge of making crank or obscene phone calls. He was taken into custody at police headquarters just before 9 a.m.

A fox was reportedly injured and laying on the beach off Poppasquash Road. Officers were unable to find the animal.

Officers assisted with a family disturbance at a home on Andrews Court. One family member reportedly became aggressive with others.

Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Officers assisted with an accident at Metacom Avenue and State Street around 3:30 p.m. One driver was transported to Newport Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Officers removed an unwanted patron from the Bristol Sports Club on Wood Street at 7 p.m. He was taken to the VA Hospital in Providence.

A man approached a group of people on State Street asking for money just before 8 p.m. When they denied him, he reportedly began to scream and curse at them. Officers intervened and escorted the man to a nearby RIPTA bus stop, where he caught a ride out of town.

Thursday, Oct. 20

A caller reported seeing a man picking up a deer by the side of the road on Metacom Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Police notified the state Department of Environmental Management, which handles wild animal complaints.

A caller in another city reported being a victim of fraud by a company with the name “Steel Citysheds.com,” with a supposed address of 500 Wood St. in Bristol. There is no such company. Officers advised the caller to contact police in their town.

A car was broken into on Waterman Street. The theft was reported just before 6 p.m.

Officers responded to reports of phone scams At an elder care facility on Franklin Street and at homes on Hope Street and Hattie Brown Drive. There have been several reports of attempted phone scams in town this week.

Officers responded to noise/nuisance complaints on Oliver Street at 9:15 p.m., on Prospect Street at 10 p.m. and on Burton Street at 11 p.m.

An intoxicated man reportedly left a home on Metacom Avenue with a young child in a gray pickup truck en route to the Water Street area of Warren. Officers contacted Warren Police, who tracked the man and the child down.

Friday, Nov. 21

Officers broke up a fight on Court Street just after 1 a.m.

Officers helped remove a cat stuck behind a refrigerator at the Mulberry Apartments on Mulberry Road.

A landscaping crew was reportedly blowing leaves into the road pn Hope Street around 4 p.m. The crew was gone when officers arrived.

A resident on Oliver Street called twice to report a barking dog in a nearby home at 8:30 and 9 p.m. Both times, the dog was not barking when officers arrived.

A house was reportedly broken into on Monroe Avenue. The call came in around 10:30 p.m.

Saturday, Nov, 22

Tenant peaking loudly at an apartment building on Union Street were asked to quiet down for the night just before 2 a.m.

A man was reportedly assaulted when he attempted to collect a debt for a boat motor he had sold. He declined treatment for minor bruising and reportedly decided not to press charges after speaking to police.

A woman on Bay View Avenue called police to remove an unwanted person from her home around 3:30 p.m. He or she had left before patrolmen arrived.

Officers responded to noise complaints on St. Elizabeth Street at 10:30 p.m. and on Prospect Street just before midnight. There were no issues at either location.

Sunday, Nov. 23

A caller on Herzig Street reported possible drug activity in a tan vehicle parked in front of a home just after midnight. There was no problem; the car’s occupants were playing video games on their mobile devices.

Four kids were reportedly playing inside a tunnel on Franklin Street, disrupting traffic at 1 p.m. Police dispersed them from the area.

Officers responded to a reportedly out-of-control 14-year-old girl on Violet Court. There was no arrest made.
