Bristol Police: Gunshots, dog detective

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Dec. 22 and Dec. 28

A caller reported seeing a man damaging signs at Hope and Asylum roads around 2 p.m. Officers investigated but could not find any damage.

A “suspicious” man was sitting in his car at Fayles and Maywood roads just after 3 p.m. There was nothing suspicious. He was waiting for a friend.

A resident on Poppasquash Road reported people driving a red van with a trailer were taking items out of a neighbor’s house around 5:30 p.m. Officers found the property owner had hired the men.

A resident called police because her dog barked at the small, white house at the corner of High and Burton streets and she expected something suspicious. There was no problem.

Tuesday, Dec. 23

A caller reported hearing a loud bang in the area of Town Beach that he believed was a hunting rifle.

Heavy smoke was pouring from the basement of a home on Mt. Hope Avenue. The smoke was coming from a dryer vent.

A woman wearing pink shorts and a blue shirt was walking northbound on the Mt. Hope Bridge. Portsmouth Police officers drove her back to Bristol. Pedestrians are not allowed on the bridge.

Wednesday, Dec. 24

Officers investigated reports of smoke coming from Bristol Auto Salvage on Broadcommon Road around 3 p.m. Employees were reportedly burning trash in a steel drum. The fire was contained.

A man wearing blue jeans and a Navy blue hooded sweatshirt was reportedly tampering with cars on Monroe Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 25

A resident on Hope Street reported someone was trying to break into the house through the back door. Officers found no sign of attempted forced entry, suspecting the wind may have alerted the homeowner.

The garage doors at Union Commercial Hardware on Wood Street were reportedly open at 8:30 a.m. when the business was closed. Officers secured the building and contacted the owner.

Friday, Dec. 26

A resident reported a domestic disturbance at a home on Sachem Road. It turned out to be an argument between a father and son.

A dog was reportedly locked in a car on High Street for nearly four hours. Officers contacted the owner, who was visiting a friend, about 8:30 p.m.

A cell phone was reportedly stolen at Cumberland Farms on Metacom Avenue.

Saturday, Dec. 27

A caller reported hearing a series of loud pops in the area of Peck Avenue. No source was found.

A car was reportedly broken into on Weetamore Farm Drive at 8:30 a.m.

Gun shots, possibly from hunters, were reported in the area of Tupelo Street.

A group of children were reportedly looking in the windows of Mt. Hope High School on Chestnut Street. They were reportedly looking for a wi-fi signal.

Sunday, Dec. 28

The Bristol Harbor Inn on Thames Street called for assistance with an intoxicated guest.
