LITTLE COMPTON — This town is shut down, to hear town officials describe how the community is responding to Blizzard Juno.
As of about 11 a.m., Tuesday, the storm that started early last evening was still blowing through Little Compton.
“The plows are running, now and again. No one’s driving. Nothing’s open, and we’re keeping the roads at least passable,” said Town Council President Robert Mushen. “But stay off the roads if you don’t need to use them,” he said.
“There’s been no need for emergency transport,” he said, “and no power outages.”
Mr. Mushen said one lady, with her small dog, was driven from Little Compton to the Tiverton Middle School shelter on Monday evening, shortly after the center opened at 7 p.m.
Mr. Mushen said he was reserving judgment — the snow was still blowing across the cornfield behind his home, he said — as to whether Town Hall would be open Wednesday.
Police Chief Buzzy Marion said “fortunately we’ve had no calls, no accidents, no vehicles reported off the road, everyone is heeding the warnings. The roads are being kept up, so we’re doing good.”
“At least half a dozen plows are out there,” he said. “I want to thank the people for letting the highway department and the state DOT for doing their job and keeping things clear.”
