Bristol Police: DUI, assault, coyotes on the loose

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Feb. 23 and March 1:

A resident on Lisa Lane was reported to be plowing snow into a neighbor’s driveway. Officers responded and found the snow did not reach the driveway, but that the resident had pushed the snow into the street, which residents are barred from doing.

A car was reportedly stolen from Bristol Toyota and quickly recovered.

A resident on Fox Hill Avenue called to report someone was in the basement of the home. Police found no evidence of anyone having been there.

Tuesday, Feb. 24

Someone reportedly broke into a home on Colt Avenue. The report came in from a resident who was taking care of a friend’s dog when she discovered around 12:30 p.m. that the back door had been kicked in. There was no one in the house at the time. Police are investigating.

Police responded to several animal calls throughout the day, including one for turkeys in Bay View Avenue on their way to the woods, an injured cat, and a loose dog on Lafayette Drive.

Wednesday, Feb. 25

Another resident was reportedly plowing snow into a neighbor’s driveway, this time on Fatima Drive. The neighbors handled it among themselves.

Deirdie M. Mosher, 48, of Seaview Ave., Bristol, was charged with domestic assault.

An employee at Enterprise Rent a Car on Metacom Avenue called police around 9:30 p.m. after discovering a garage door open. There appeared to be no issues, however, and police deemed the building secure.

Thursday, Feb. 26

An employee at Cumberland Farms on Metacom Avenue called police at 11:30 a.m. when an irate customer would not leave the store. He was gone when officers arrived.

A man wearing an orange reflective vest was reportedly walking door-to-door on Acadia Road just before 6 p.m. Officers advised the man of the town ordinance prohibiting door-to-door solicitation, and gave him a ride to Gooding and Hope streets.

Another call for more men in orange reflective vests going door-to-door came in from Colt Avenue a half-hour later. Officers advised them as well.

Officers euthanized an injured swan found on Hope Street just before midnight. The state Departemnt of Environmental Management requested the officers to do so because they did not have a wildlife rescuer available at the time.

Friday, Feb. 27

Police helped with a chimney fire on Curtis Road at 5:30 a.m. Bristol Fire-Rescue contained the fire.

More turkeys were holding up traffic on Metacom Avenue at 8:30 a.m. They soon moved on.

A resident of Kane’s Way condominiums called at 10 a.m. to report a suspicious man had been sitting in a black Cadillac in the parking lot all morning long. Officers discovered the man is a private investigator. They advised him to check in with police.

A man was seen exiting Fin’s pub on Thames Street through a window around 7 a.m. It turned out to be a pub employee who had returned to get his jacket. Nothing inside the bar appeared to be disturbed.

A report of a natural gas smell came in from Franklin Street at 5:30 p.m. National Grid was called to investigate.

Two coyotes were reportedly scratching at the front door of a home on Chilton Street. The wild canines were gone when officers arrived.

Saturday, Feb. 28

Nicholas Kennedy, 20, of 16 Fairfield Drive, East Sandwhich, Mass., was charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test on High Street at 12:30 a.m.

A woman was yelling in the middle of Court Street just after 2 a.m. She was reportedly intoxicated and officers brought her to Newport Hospital.

Another coyote complaint came in from Terrace Street at 1 p.m. Apparently the coyote was injured and wandering around on the street. Officers could not find the animal.

Residents at Franklin and Hope streets called to complain about someone lighting off fireworks around 10:30 p.m. There was nothing showing when officers arrived.

Sunday, March 1

Gina M. Andreozzi, 26, of 434 Old Providence Road, Swansea, Mass., was charged with simple assault on Wood Street about 12:30 a.m.

Officers responded to reports of a fight at Thames and John streets just before 1 a.m. The combatants were gone when they arrived.
