SEEKONK — Seekonk Police arrested two Rhode Island residents early Friday morning, Aug. 21, after officers discovered the people were in possession of narcotics and a firearm during a routine vehicle stop.

Kerrilynn Hayes, 27, and Joshua Torres, 26, each face multiple charges following the incident. Both were transported to the Seekonk Police Department for processing. They were expected to be arraigned at Taunton District Court some time Friday.

At about 2:03 a.m., Patrolman Adam Laprade stopped a car on Fall River Avenue by the Rt. 195 overpass. The stop was made after the car was seen changing lanes recklessly and failing to stop for a red light.

Patrolman Laprade was soon assisted on the stop by Patrolwoman Alexandra Cambra and Sergeant Eric Chalifoux.

Upon encountering the female driver and male passenger, Patrolman Laprade detected the strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the car’s passenger compartment. The operator also displayed indicators of impairment.

After discussion with the operator and passenger, and upon the presentation of Patrolman Laprade’s certified police canine, Kilo, the passenger revealed having marijuana, cocaine, and cash on his person. Kilo was subsequently used to conduct an exterior sniff of the car. The sniff indicated there were illegal substances in the car.

A subsequent search of the car interior led to the discovery of suspected cocaine and two amphetamine pills in a purse. Also found in the car was a loaded .357 revolver.

Ms. Hayes, of 900 Post Road, Warwick, is charged with the following: Drug Possession Class B (Cocaine); Drug Possession Class B (Amphetamine); Carry Firearm without License; Possession Ammunition; Marked Lanes Violation; and Red Light Violation.

Mr. Torres, of 211 Orms St., Providence, faces the following charges:  Possess Firearm without License, Subsequent Offense; Possession Ammunition; Drug Possession Class B, Intent to Distribute; Drug Possession Class D, Intent to Distribute; Possession Dangerous Weapon; Arrest Warrant – Falmouth District Court.
