PORTSMOUTH — A Central Falls man has been charged with stealing eight iPads while working as a custodian at Portsmouth Town Hall, police said today.
Francisco Herrera, 38, of 61 Shawmut Ave, Apartment 3, Central Falls, was arraigned in Second Division District Court Wednesday, Sept. 2, on the charge of felony larceny of more than $1,500, according to Detective Lt. Alberto L. Bucci.
Police received a complaint on Aug. 25 that eight iPads and a charging station had been stolen from Portsmouth Town Hall.
During their investigation, police said they determined the iPads had been pawned by Mr. Herrera, a former contracted custodian working for a private cleaning company at Town Hall at the time of the theft.
An arrest warrant was issued and on Monday at noon, the Central Falls Police Department arrested Mr. Herrera at his home and then turned him over to Portsmouth Police.
With assistance from Pawtucket police, six of the iPads were recovered at a pawn shop in Pawtucket, according to Lt. Bucci.
Mr. Herrera is also facing charges for possession of stolen property by Pawtucket police. The incident remains under investigation.
