Bristol police bust 16 for underage drinking offenses

In a seven-day period, Bristol police officers charged 16 young adults with underage drinking-related offenses, including possessing alcohol at house parties, providing alcohol to minors at house parties, and purchasing alcohol as minors at a local liquor store. All were 19, 20 or 21 years old, and most were from out of state.

Following is a log of police activity from Aug. 24 to 30, including the underage drinking incidents, assaults and break-ins.

Monday, Aug. 24

Someone called police to complain about a delivery truck parked and running near their property adjacent to Seabra Supermarket. The driver was advised to shut off the engine.

Someone called to complain about a house party on Bourne Street at 8:22 p.m. No party was found.

Officers charged eight young people with either possessing or procuring alcohol after they responded to a house party on Prospect Street at 11:09 p.m. Charged with underage possession of alcohol were: Taylor Nappi, 20, of Portsmouth; Bridget Quilty, 20, of Duxbury, Mass.; Justin Skov, 20, of Bridgewater, Mass.; and Isaac Randell, 20, of Gloucester, Mass. Charged with procuring alcohol for minors were: Brian Goepfert, 21, of Tullard, Conn.; Devan Taylor Walker, 21, of Bristol, Conn.; Samuel Robert Susko, 21, of Stamford, Conn.; and Joshua A. Reedlepak, 21, of Tolland, Conn.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

Someone complained of noise on Garfield Avenue at 12:51 a.m.

Matthew P. Bessette, 31, of 314 Hope St., Apt. 7, was arrested and charged with violating a no-contact order at 7:40 a.m. after an incident at the Shell station on Metacom Avenue.

At 9:10 a.m., someone reported that a man on a bicycle had been seen at around 6 a.m. peering into windows on Bay View Avenue.

Someone complained about a house party at 6:57 p.m. on King Philip Avenue.

Responding officers called for rescue after being called to deal with a disorderly person on Hope Street at 8:25 p.m.

Someone from Carr Lane called police at 10:20 p.m. to report an earlier break-in.

Police and firefighters responded to Monroe Avenue at 10:25 p.m. for a fire that turned out to be food on the stove.

Someone from the Kinsmen Tavern called police after a patron left through a side door without paying at 10:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

A caller from Wood Street reported four males throwing garbage cans in the roadway at 1:02 a.m.

Someone reported a man cutting down trees on public property on Annawamscutt Drive at 9:42 a.m., but a responding officer was not able to find the person.

A woman on Thompson Avenue called for assistance at 1:06 p.m. because her son was out of control.

ELJ Construction on Metacom Avenue reported a past larceny.

Someone called police to investigate two women sitting and knitting in the area of Buttonwood Street and Bay View Avenue at 8:22 p.m. A responding officer found no problem; the women said they were taking a break from walking.

An officer was called to investigate loud music from a Metacom Avenue residence at 9:42 p.m., but no on answered the door.

Thursday, Aug. 27

Officers were called to Prospect Street at 3:53 a.m. to investigate two men who were looking into car windows. They found one vehicle with the door ajar, and the owner said she was missing a GPS. Dante Silva, 18, of 7 San Jose Drive, Bristol, was arrested and charged with larceny and tampering with a vehicle.

An officer took a report of stolen chainsaws on Magnolia Street at 7:58 a.m.

Following a 911 call at 11:41 a.m., Marcia Pereira, 22, of 4 St. Louis Ave., Bristol, was charged with a warrant from Sixth District Court.

Alicia Werthessen, 41, of 322 Wood St., Apt. #2, Bristol, was arrested at 12:57 p.m. on a warrant from Second District Court and transported to the Kent County Courthouse.

A past larceny was reported at Hope Street and Jefferson Lane.

Officers investigated the use of narcotics on Tower Street at 3:58 p.m.

Police received complaints of a man wearing a white button-down shirt soliciting money door to door on Cole Street at 4:24 p.m., then 13 minutes later in the Narrows Road area.

Two 19-year-olds were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor at 5:02 p.m. at Viola’s Liquors on Wood Street. They are Christopher Aquina, 19, of Mahopac, N.Y., and Stetson Lacombe, 19, of Groton, Mass.

A caller from Bay View Avenue reported vandalism to their property at 8:26 p.m.

An officer was called to Union Street at 10:13 p.m. to investigate a woman banging on the door of a residence.

Friday, Aug. 28

An officer was called to the corner of Hope and Bradford streets to investigate a noise complaint at 1:45 a.m. It turned out to be people in the street speaking loudly.

A caller from Mason Avenue brought an officer to investigate a neighbor who was draining his pool and sending water into his yard.

Oscar Bonetti, 20, of Portsmouth, was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor at Viola’s Liquors at 6:05 p.m.

An officer was called to Roma Street at 10:52 p.m. to investigate a large party outside. The officer found no problems, including a small fire contained to a fire pit.

An officer was called to Wood Street for a large party outside at 11:20 p.m. but found very little noise at the residence.

Officers were called to find a suspicious man running up and down Center Street at 11:36 p.m.

Another noise complaint came from Bourne Street at 11:58 p.m., but responding officers found that people were leaving for the night.

Saturday, Aug. 29

Someone called police at 2:03 a.m. to report an intoxicated woman attempting to drive on Dominion Avenue. Officers found no problem; the woman was staying in her residence for the night.

Someone from Wood Street reported a past larceny at 10:01 a.m.

A caller from Sherman Avenue reported a past larceny at 4:10 p.m.

A caller from St. Elizabeth Street reported a stolen bicycle.

A caller from the East Bay Community Development Corp. reported a laptop and tablet stolen from a vehicle.

A resident complained of a house party on Chestnut Street at 6:35 p.m.

A resident complained about a house party at 7:18 p.m. on Butterworth Avenue.

Officers responded to the Town Common for a reported fight in progress between two females at 8:45 p.m. There were no arrests.

After officers were called to a domestic disturbance on Hope Street at 9:34 p.m., William Copeland, 39, of 29 St. Elizabeth St., Apt. A, was arrested for domestic simple assault.

Four people were charged with procuring alcohol for minors, and one person was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, after officers were called to a house party complaint on Clipper Way at 11:09 p.m. Charged with procurement were: Adam Routhier, 20, of Goffstown, N.H.; Caio A. Mitre, 20, of Hyannis, Mass.; Logan Allard, 20, of Manchester, N.H.; and Thomas F. Birch, 20, of Harwich, Mass. Samantha Woznicki, 19, of Bristol, Conn., was charged with possession.

Sunday, Aug. 30

Officers were called to Oliver Street at 4:49 p.m. for a verbal argument.

Jovani A. Banegas, 18, of 59 St. Elizabeth St., Apt. 1, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, driving on a suspended license, and vandalism.

Irene B. Znuj, 67, of 58 Sherman Ave., Bristol, was charged with two counts of larceny under $1,500.

Kevin J. Mello, 51, of 34 Loring Road, Bristol, was charged with a warrant from Sixth District Court.
