The following report is compiled from the Bristol Police Department call log for the week of Aug. 26 – Sept. 2 2013.
Monday, Aug. 26
After a traffic stop, police arrested John A. Almeida, 36, of 18 Wilson St., Bristol, on two active bench warrants: failure to appear for a Middletown police arrest, and failure to appear for a suspended license.
A Hope Street caller reported her mail had been tampered with.
Police were called to an area of Hopeworth at Mount Hope Avenue for a a reported disturbance. A male told police he had been assaulted by Benjamin G. Arruda, 21, of 52 Viking Drive, Bristol. According to the male, Mr. Arruda allegedly pepper-sprayed him, which police noticed on his shirt. He told police that Mr. Arruda accused him of stealing an i-Phone, which he allegedly did not. Mr. Arruda was arrested on charges of simple assault.
A caller reported seeing a Volkswagon full of kids, towing two skateboarders in the area of Annawamscutt and Lafayette drives at 3:44 p.m.
Police stopped a male walking south along Mount Hope Bridge. The male, identified as Dylan Schwartz, 22, of Fall River, Mass., had an active bench warrant for failure to appear and was subsequently arrested.
A caller asked to speak to police about used cars that were being sold at the top of the road near Francesca Lane and Metacom Avenue. There were no violations and all cars were registered.
A caller reported that male was sitting on a bench near the basketball courts on the town common, allegedly smoking weed.
A Stephen Drive resident reported that his wife wouldn’t allow him to talk to their children.
Tuesday, Aug 27
A Ferry Road resident reported that there was an unknown boat in her driveway. Apparently the boat was dropped off at the wrong house. It was returned to the owner.
An employee of Westfall Manufacturing Company reported that approximately $6,000 of wind turbine parts were stolen.
Police were called to Midland Farms for a reported robbery shortly before 11 p.m.. The clerk told police that a black male walked out of the store with three sandwiches, two Arizona Iced Teas, and an ice cream – all worth $19.45. When the clerk asked the male to pay, he allegedly told the clerk no and that he was going to take it. The clerk chased the male onto Wood and Franklin streets before losing him.
Wednesday, Aug. 28
A Butterworth Avenue resident reported that someone made threats to him over the phone.
Police dispersed two males who were sitting outside of Dunkin’ Donuts on the corner of Hope and State streets, drinking alcohol.
At 10:19 p.m., a Smith Street resident reported that there was a lot of yelling, screaming and crying coming from the back of her home. Police determined there was no problem, just juveniles playing loudly in the back yard.
Thursday, Aug. 29
After helping a disabled vehicle on Mount Hope Bridge, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management ran the license plates and discovered that the registration was suspended. DEM officers notified Bristol police officer, who stopped the car, driven by Alicia Moore, 23, of Newport. There was an active warrant for Ms. Moore on charges she failed to appear, and was taken into custody.
At 8 p.m., police issued a citation for underage possession of alcohol to Colin Pottbecker, 20, of Morris, Conn., after he allegedly used a fake ID to buy alcohol from Bristol Wine and Spirits.
A caller reported that workers in an area of Gooding Plaza had been starting work before 5:30 a.m. Police notified the workers of the ordinance, and to not start work until 7 a.m.
Police were called to pick up a used needle found on the ground on Mt. Hope Avenue.
While checking ID’s at Fins Restaurant, police saw a female pass a clear plastic cup of pineapple juice and vodka to a male, who subsequently dropped it on the floor. Officers approach the female, who told them she did not have any ID on her, but was under 21. She was taken outside, where police identified her as Hannah Dupont, 20, of Rochester, Mass. She told police she used her friend’s ID to get into Finns, and that her friend was no longer at the bar. Ms. Dupont was issued a citation for underage possession of alcohol.
Friday, Aug. 30
Police were called to SS Dion Restaurant on Thames Street because someone lit a small fire.
At 2:11 a.m., Ian Michael Walsh, 21, of Wolcott, Conn., was arrested on charges of DUI, first offense. Mr. Walsh was stopped by police on Bay View Avenue after officers witnessed him allegedly drive through a stop sign. When police spoke with Mr. Walsh, they detected an odor of alcohol. Police conducted a field sobriety test, which Mr. Walsh allegedly failed. He was taken into custody.
A Murphy Avenue resident reported that her son’s XBox, among other items, was stolen and she told police she believed she knew who did took them.
A caller reported that a man was walking his dogs along Kennedy Court and Metacom Avenue, screaming and cursing at them.
Police were called to Independence Park for a report of a disorderly male at 7:02 p.m. Officers observed Dayle L. Harden, 49, of Middletown, allegedly shouting and making threats. Mr. Harden was also holding a bottle wrapped in paper, and he allegedly smelled of alcohol. He was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct.
While on patrol, police saw a female, identified as Roxann Cuda, 20, of Rocky Hill, Conn., leave Viola Liquors carrying a bottle of Bacardi Rum, a case of Budweiser beer and Bud Ice. An officer approached her and asked for her ID. According to police, Ms. Cuda gave them a fraudulent license. She was issued a citation for underage possession of alcohol.
Torrence Walker, 20, of Duxbury, Mass., was also issued a citation for underage possession of alcohol after allegedly buying a pack of Miller High Life from Bristol Wine and Spirits at 8:24 p.m. Police confiscated the fraudulent Rhode Island license, which Mr. Walker allegedly used to buy the beer.
Saturday, Aug. 31
A caller reported that two male juveniles were playing with skateboards on the town common gazebo steps.
A shopper at Stop and Shop reported that she saw two small children inside a car, and the mom came out of the store after five – 10 minutes.
Police received a call from a very irate resident at shortly before 8 p.m., who reported that M-80 fireworks were going off in the area of Tobin Lane, and he wanted the police to do something about it.
Police were called to Aidan’s Pub for a bar check. When officers entered the bar, they saw Hilary Molvig, 20 of Riverside, allegedly drinking an alcoholic beverage in a clear plastic cup. When asked, she told police she was not 21 and was subsequently issued a citation for underage possession of alcohol.
Sunday, Sept. 1
Police were called to a home on Bourne Street for a reported domestic disturbance at 3:54 a.m. En route, police stopped a car pulling out of Bourne Street, driven by Joshua Toste, 26, of Warren. Other officers responded to the home, where a female there told them her boyfriend, Mr. Toste, had grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the house. Mr. Toste told police he did have an argument with his girlfriend. With a witness statement and a formal statement by the girlfriend, Mr. Toste was arrested on charges of simple assault.
A caller reported that their backpack was stolen off a RIPTA bus on Thursday. It contained a wallet and cell phone.
Police responded to Lower Ferry Road for a report that people on a boat were stealing gas from another boat.
A Fox Hill Avenue resident reported that he received a text message stating his debit card was deactivated. He believed it was a scam and was told to contact his bank.
Monday, Sept. 2
Police were asked to increase checks of the area around Bristol Upholstery on Metacom Avenue because of the constant illegal dumping on the property.
A caller reported at 3:36 a.m. that his girlfriend attacked him. He left the house and asked to speak to police nearby.
A Quenton Lane resident reported that his son took his car without permission and he wanted it back.
