Monday, March 18
A man turned himself in to police at 12:10 p.m. after a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 14, a woman reported to police that her 16 year old son was assaulted by Andrew Loras, 20, of 31 First St. Mr. Loras and the youth know Each other and the woman claimed that Mr. Loras had been trying to provoke the 16 year old to fight for several weeks. When the two encountered each other, Mr. Loras allegedly punched the youth in the face, causing injury to his mouth. According to police, the boy’s mother brought him to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment. Mr. Loras was charged with simple assault or battery and disorderly conduct.
While on a traffic post at Hope Street and Asylum Road, police observed a passing vehicle in which the driver and passenger were not wearing seatbelts. When police stopped the car and checked the identification of its occupants, it was found that the passenger, Christopher Duarte, 24, of Fall River, Mass. had a warrant issued by Sixth Division District Court for failure to appear. Mr. Duarte was arrested and charged on the warrant.
Police received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle parked behind a building on Metacom Avenue at 8:04 p.m. When police investigated, they observed a strong odor of marijuana and a cloud of smoke coming from the car window. When police were questioning the occupants of the car, they allege that the passenger, Christian M. Spina, 21, of 1 Jenny Lane had a plastic bag containing a leafy substance in his pocket. Mr. Spina was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Tuesday, March 19
Police were advised by Warren police department to be on the lookout for a vehicle in which Joe J. Araujo, 25, of 231 Wood St. was traveling. Bristol police stopped the vehicle on Metacom Avenue at 7:16 p.m. and arrested Mr. Araujo, charging him on a bench warrant issued by Superior Court.
Thursday, March 21
After a Roger Williams University student was suspected of having marijuana in a dorm room, police were called to investigate. When they arrived, police allegedly observed two containers on a cabinet inside the room of Camden E. Melendy, 20, of Reading, Mass. In the containers was a leafy substance. Mr. Melendy was charged with possession of marijuana.
Friday, March 22
At 2:41 a.m., police observed a vehicle traveling south on Metacom Avenue as its driver’s side tires crossed over the double yellow lines into the opposite lane of travel. When police stopped the vehicle and checked the driver for identification, they learned that Jose A. Leon, 24, of Smithfield had a bench warrant issued by Sixth Division District Court for failure to appear for a payment review and was operating the vehicle on a suspended license. In addition, police learned that he was also wanted as a fugitive from justice with an active affidavit warrant issued by Fall River, Mass. police. He was arrested and charged on the offenses.
At 9:22 a.m., police recognized Joseph Silva, 58, of 115 Dewolf Ave. as he walked along Wood Street. Mr. Dewolf was known to have an active bench warrant. He was taken into custody and charged on the warrant.
Saturday, March 23
Police observed a vehicle run through a red traffic 2:08 a.m. and followed it on Metacom Avenue. When police stopped the car and approached, they allegedly saw a black coat inside the car with a plastic bag sticking out of the coat, as well as a backpack with two jars. The plastic bag and the jars allegedly contained a leafy substance. Inside the backpack, police also found a smoking pipe, a grinder, $1,000 in cash and other paraphernalia. The driver, Jonathan C. Palmer, 22, of Old Saybrook, Conn. was charged with possession of marijuana and driving in possession of a controlled substance.
Sunday, March 24
On March 4, a Bristol resident reported that unauthorized transactions totaling over $500 appeared on his credit card statement, with several charges made at local businesses. The victim offered Joshua J. Rossi, 36, of Somerset, Mass. as a possible suspect. On March 24, Warren police arrested Mr. Rossi and transported him to Bristol where he was charged with fraudulent use of credit cards, obtaining money under false pretenses, two counts of fraudulent checks under $1,500 and larceny.
Monday, March 25
After police responded to check on the well being of a woman in a vehicle, they attempted to return the keys to the calling party. When they arrived at his residence, Corey J. Almeida, 22, of 503 Wood St. Apt. 1N, he allegedly became belligerent with police. He took the keys and threw them. Mr. Almeida then locked himself inside the apartment, locking another resident out. When police officers coaxed Mr. Almeida to unlock the door, they arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct.
