It did not take long for officials at the Bayside YMCA to offer up a possible suspect in the larceny of cash, a cell phone and a wallet at the West Street facility last week.

On Tuesday, April 29, a 70 year-old Barrington man called local police at about 6:15 p.m. to report a larceny at the YMCA branch. The man told police he left his personal belongings — including $600 in cash, a leather wallet, a cell phone and his car keys — inside a locker at the YMCA while he went to work out. He reportedly secured the locker with a combination lock, he said.

Police said that when he returned to the locker, the lock was gone and so were many of his items.

The man notified police and staff members at the YMCA, one of whom said they saw a man carrying things while running from the facility to a white Nissan in the parking lot. YMCA officials also said that an individual who was working at the YMCA that day as part of his community service sentencing went missing from the facility.

Police are still investigating the larceny.
