PORTSMOUTH — A Portsmouth police officer stopped a woman from jumping off the Mt. Hope Bridge Saturday afternoon, according to police.
On Saturday at 3:35 p.m., police responded to the bridge for the report of a female walking on the span.
Officer David Powers located the female near the center span, standing on the railings and leaning over the side of the bridge, police said.
After speaking with the 25-year-old woman for several minutes, Officer Powers learned she was distraught and wanted to end her life.
Officer Powers was able to restrain the woman to prevent her from jumping, police said.
