A Barrington man pleaded no contest to a larceny charge after he allegedly stole jewelry from his grandmother and traded it for cash at a pawn shop.

Barrington police charged Michael Lee Acciardo, 27, of 67 Highland Ave., with larceny under $1,500 on Thursday, July 17, after completing an investigation into some alleged thefts.

The department received a complaint earlier this month and reportedly discovered that Mr. Acciardo had been stealing items of jewelry from his grandmother, with whom he had been staying recently. Police also allegedly found one of the grandmother’s gold earrings in Mr. Acciardo’s bedroom.

According to police, Mr. Acciardo admitted to investigators that he traded some of the jewelry for $450 cash at a Warwick pawn shop.

The judge reportedly ordered Mr. Acciardo to one year suspended sentence. He is also not to have contact with the victim, must pay restitution to her and must attend substance abuse counseling.
